DNNMG LLC started its operation in 2007 by planting 600 sea buckthorn and 350 currant trees on 2.5 hectares of land near the Gashuun river, Ulaangom soum, Uvs aimag. It now has a large orchard with more than 2,000 sea buckthorn and more than 500 currant trees. Currently, our company harvests 10-15 tons of sea buckthorn and 300-350 kg of currants a year and supplies them to the market. In addition, we expanded our operations by growing 5,000-8,000 fruit seedlings per year.

In 2016, the company became a member of the “Sea buckthorn cluster” team established under the Uvs aimag Chamber of Commerce and Industry and works closely with other sea buckthorn growers. We have successfully participated in exhibitions such as “Mongolian Cities Association-2011” and “Western Region Partnership-2013” ​​and were awarded a silver medal for fresh sea buckthorn juice and oil.

5-6 people are employed regularly, and 60-130 people are employed during the harvest.

Pure sea buckthorn wildcrafted from Uvs, Mongolia

The botanical name, Hippophae L. is derived from the Greek word “hippo,” meaning horse. It is believed to have been used to strengthen ancient Greek horses and restore their coats to a brilliant luster. All the way to Asia, Genghis Khan, regarded as one of the most famous conquerors of history, powered his army and their horses on sea buckthorn for stamina and recovery from battles. The strong history of sea buckthorn’s wonder lived on since in the country.

Of the 21 provinces (called aimags) in Mongolia, Uvs is regarded as the home of the best sea buckthorn in the country. High in the steppes at 936 meters (3,070 feet above sea level) grows a tiny but resilient fruit that resists high altitudes and the harsh weather conditions, with winter temperatures reaching up to -50 ºC and summer temperature of up to 40 ºC. The muddy iodine-rich soil fed by permafrost water also contributes to the unique qualities of Uvs sea buckthorn.
